Ice storm in 2006
The lake used to freeze over most years, usually in January or February.
On March 14 2006, the ice had not long melted, when during the night there was a terrific gale and a massive drop in temperature.
The wind had blown waves onto the beach; the air and ground temperature was so cold that ice formed on everything that the Balaton water touched, resulting in the scenes shown above. |
